Books
I don’t recommend many books outside the free FAA’s pubs, but these are worth their weight in gold to me:
- Stick and Rudder
- Arguably the best book on practical (not engineering) aerodynamics
- Focuses on the elements of aircraft control that pilots need to understand intimately
- Just as applicable today as in 1945
- IFR: A Structured Approach (John Eckalbar 2003)
- The best book I've found about procedural IFR Flying
- The flying by the numbers section is spot on
- Very applicable still today (RNAV info is outdated)
Articles
I find well-cited articles when I want to deep dive a topic.
I’ll link them here as I find them worthwhile:
IFR
- 172 Attitude Flying by the Numbers
- Instrument Flying by the Numbers (Thomas Johnson —- Beechcraft Flight Instructor)
Legal Stuff
- This CFI Guide to Legal Interpretations provided by the Society of Aviation and Flight Educations is an excellent synopsis
